Congress has fielded senior party leader Randeep Singh Surjewala as the candidate of Haryana’s Jind Assembly by-election. Surjewala is currently the media in-charge of the Congress party.
According to a statement issued by party general secretary Mukul Wasnik, Congress President Rahul Gandhi has approved the candidature of Surjewala. Surjewala is also the Chief of the Media Department of the All India Congress Committee, as well as currently a legislator from Kaithal.
According to party sources, the JD (U), which is taking place before the Lok Sabha elections, has taken seriously the Congress leadership, so decided to bring a large face to the ground.
It is worth mentioning that after the demise of MLA Harichand Middha from Jind seat, the by-election is going on. Mridha won the 2014 election on the ticket of INLO. Due to prolonged illness, he died in August last year.
Jind is voting on January 28 and results will be on January 31. Thursday is the last day of filing nomination.
